Termites vs. Ants
Like a horror movie, termites and ants can emerge from your carpet, cracks in the walls and floors. If you see one it means there are many more hiding beneath the surface. Termites are often confused with ants, but the consequences of a termite swarm to your property are much greater. Both ants and termites have six legs, can be very small and have wings. Here are some differences:
Ants:
- Narrow waists, ants have a sort of hourglass figure
- Antennae, ants’ antennae have an obvious elbow shape
- They eat everything: you can find ants making a meal out of anything
- Two sets of wings (one wing is longer than the other)
Termites
- Thick bodies, there is no “hourglass waist”
- Straight antennae
- They eat wood. Termites won’t be pouncing on your ice cream cone at a picnic
- Two sets of wings (same size)
